Evergreen shrub to small tree to 13 m tall with slender, whip-like branches. Leaves 3-9 cm long, elliptic to linear-lanceolate. Flowers unisexual, male and female flowers on the same tree in clusters at axils of leaves. Fruits 4-7 mm across, globose, green ripening brown-red to black.
