Description
Small evergreen bushy tree, to 15 m tall, bark becoming orange-brown, thinly papery flaky. Leaves 2.5-8 cm long, lanceolate to elliptic, opposite. Flowers 2.4-4 cm long, in terminal or axillary clusters, white. Fruits c. 6 mm across, globose, ripening white.
Ecology
Common in degraded land and old secondary forest, over sand near the coast, rocky hilltops to hill forests to 1300 m altitude.
Distribution
Madagascar, China, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Uses
Sometimes planted as ornamental.
