Small evergreen tree 3-13 m tall with columnar crown. Leaves 5-12 cm long, elliptic to ovate. Flowers unisexual, male and female on different trees, small, c. 1 mm across, covered with brown hairs. Fruits 6-9 cm long, solitary, broadly pear-shaped or almost globose, yellow to dull brown.
