Description

Large strangler similar to Ficus benjamina but differing by its numerous tassels of slender aerial roots from branches and twigs, some developing into pillar roots. Leaves blunt or scarcely pointed, often asymmetric. Figs sessile, ripening pink to dull purple with 3 small yellow scales at base.


Ecology

Especially common in swampy habitats.

Distribution

India to Solomon Islands.

Uses

Cultivated as an ornamental.
