Ficus hispida L.f. (MORACEAE)

Description

Small evergreen tree to 12 m high. Twigs, leaves and figs set with short, rather bristly white hairs. Leaves 5.5-35 cm long, generally opposite, oblong, margin faintly toothed. Figs on leafless hanging twigs from the trunks and main branches, 2.5-3.8 cm across, stalked, obovoid.


Ecology

Common in secondary vegetation.

Distribution

A widespread species India to Sri Lanka, S China, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Philippines, Sulawesi, New Guinea and Australia (Queensland).
