Description

Evergreen monecious tree to 45 m tall. Leaves 6.5-26 cm long, elliptic, obovate, or rounded, very variable in size and shape. Flower heads in leaf axils. Male flower heads obovoid to globose, 1.2-2.5 cm across. Fruits up to 15 cm across, globose, greenish yellow ripening dull orange, thickly set with stiff conical spines.


Ecology

Frequent in lowland and hill forests.

Distribution

Myanmar, Thailand, Indo-China, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and Java.

Uses

Fruits are edible. It produces a light hardwood timber.
