Keledang
Description
Medium-sized to tall tree up to 36 m tall, up to 85 cm diam. Leaves ovate-lanceolate, 12.-35 cm long, margin wavy. Syncarps (fused fruits) on leafy twigs, rounded, 8-12 cm long, dull olive brown, covered with blunt pyramidal warty knobs, Seed covered with bright orange edible aril.
Ecology
Lowlands to hill forests.
Distribution
Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Bangka, the Riau and Lingga Archipelago and Borneo.
Uses
Important source of keledang timber, wood used for heavy construction, furniture, boat building, household utensils and coffins. Fruits are edible.
