Description

Medium-sized evergreen tree to 30 m tall. Leaves 30-50 cm long, pinnately compound without terminal leaflet, leaflets 2-4 on each side of rachis. Flowers small, c. 2-3 mm long, scented, creamy white, clustered in racemes, on main trunk and branches. Fruits 2-4 cm long, ellipsoid, ripening yellowish brown, with translucent fleshy arils.


Ecology

Lowland evergreen forest.

Distribution

Peninsular Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Philippines, Sulawesi, Moluccas, Iran Jaya.

Uses

Widely cultivated for its sweet edible fruits. The wild plants have very sour fruits. Different cultivar groups are known locally as duku, duku-langsat, dokong, etc.
