Description
Large deciduous tree to 40 m tall with spreading crown. Leaves 30-50 cm long, pinnately compound with terminal leaflets, leaflets 6-12 on each side of rachis. Flowers sweetly scented, small, c. 3 mm across, cream to white; in branched clusters 10-30 cm long. Fruits 3.5-5 cm long, capsular.
Ecology
Lowland to hill evergreen forests.
Distribution
Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, eastward through Asia to S China (including Hainan), N Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo.
Uses
Important timber tree and commonly used for interior finishing, panelling, moulding, flooring, decorative furniture, sliced veneer etc.
