White Champaca

Description

Evergreen tree to 25 m tall with bushy crown. Leaves 19-40 cm long, elliptic-oblong to oblanceolate. Flowers 5-6 cm long, white to cream, in leaf axils, in pairs, flowering one at a time, facing upwards. Fruits similar to M. champaca, more often tree remains sterile.


Distribution

Probably a hybrid between M. champaca and M. montana originating in Java and widely cultivated in S and SE Asia.

Uses

Ornamental tree and for its fragrant flowers.
