Description

Evergreen tree to 40 m tall with bushy crown. Leaves 10-20 cm long, narrowly ovate. Flowers 4-5 cm long, cream to creamy yellow to orang, fragrant, solitary, in leaf axils, facing upwards. Fruits loosely arranged in pendulous spiral cluster 6-30 cm long, dehiscent exposing seeds covered with reddish arils.


Ecology

Lowland forest.

Distribution

India, Nepal, SW China, Myanmar, Thailand and Indochina.

Uses

Cultivated for the fragrant flowers and as ornamental tree. Timber is durable and easy to work.
