Description
Evergreen tree to 24 m tall with rounded or cylindric bushy crown. Leaves opposite or sub-opposite, 7.5-30 cm long, elliptic, trinerved; young leaves have an attractive pink flush turning yellow subsequently green. Flowers creamy in terminal and axillary clusters. Fruits oblong, c. 1.5 cm long.
Ecology
Common in lowland and hill forests including secondary forest.
Distribution
India, Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and Philippines.
Uses
Often planted as shade tree. The wood is used in the manufacture of fragrant joss sticks.
