Vitex trifolia L. (LAMIACEAE)

Description

Erect shrub or small bushy tree to 4 tall. Leave mostly trifoliate, central leaflets5-9 cm long, obovate. Flowers terminal clusters, 1-1.2 cm long, pale blue to lilac or purple without yellow mark at throat. Fruits 0.5-0.8 cm long, spherical to broadly obovooid with rounded tips, smooth, ripening pruple-black or dark brown.


Ecology

Coastal areas and waste-land around villages.

Distribution

India, Sri Lanka, China, Japan and through SE Asia, N Australia and Tahiti.

Uses

Somestimes planted as a herbal or ornamental plant.
