Description
Evergreen tree to 24 m tall with spreading crown. Leaves digitate with 5-7 unequal leaflets, opposite, 10-30 cm long, elliptic-oblong to obovate, petiole winged. Flowers c. 1.2 cm long, in open branched terminal cluster, lilac to purple. Fruits 2.5-4 cm long, ovoid with many faint ridges.
Ecology
Lowland evergreen forests.
Distribution
India, Nicobar Is., S Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo and Philippines.
Uses
Timber is durable and used in rafters, interior work, boxes and crates. It has an attractive foliage and has potential as an ornamental tree.
