Description
Evergreen shrub to 5 m tall. Leaves 15-20 cm long, opposite or whorled, ovate to oblong, green on top, purple underneath. Flowers in large showy terminal clusters with a narrow pink tube to 7 cm long. Fruits a drupe.
Ecology
Scrubby areas especially on sandy soil near the sea.
Distribution
Papua New Guinea and Philippines. It can become invasive and has naturalised in many tropical countries.
Uses
Planted as an ornamental.
