Description

Evergreen shrub to 1.5 m tall. Leaves up to 30 cm long, opposite, subcordate to orbicular to ovate, 3-5 lobes. Flowers in terminal pagoda-shaped clusters, 1.5 cm wide, pink, orange-red or red. Fruits 0.5-1 cm across, globose.


Ecology

Lowland forest in disturbed habitats and stream banks.

Distribution

S China and SE Asia.

Uses

Often planted as ornamental for its attractive flowers. There is also a yellow flowered form.
