Description

Large evergreen or partly deciduous tree to 40 m with spreading crown and massive columnar trunk, developing steep plank buttresses. Leaves simple, alternate, 7-12 cm long, ellptic-oblong. Flowers ca. 0.6 cm long, greenish white. Fruits 4-6 cm long, ellipsoid or mango-shaped, green ripening yellow with pale orange flesh, fibrous inside.


Ecology

Lowland evergreen to deciduous forest to 300 m.

Distribution

Indo-China, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra and Borneo.

Uses

Timber is hard but not durable in contact with ground unless treated. Used in flooring, cabinet work and furniture. The edible seeds has a pleasant taste.
