Description

Deciduous tree to 45 m tall with open crown and slender branches. Leaves 5-7 cm long, opposite, oval to elliptic-oblong. Flowers 1.5-2.5 cm long, white or pink, clustered along leafless twigs or behind young leaves. Fruits 1.2-1.8 cm long, ellipsoid to narrowly ovoid with pointed tip.

Ecology

Semi-open areas and secondary forests in the lowlands.

Distribution

Andaman Is., S Thailand, Cambodia, S Vietnam, SE China, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Banka, Borneo, Sulawesi and Philippines.

Uses

Produces a durable timber but not harvested commercially. Occasionally planted as an ornamental.
