Tembusu
Description
Evergreen tree to 30 m tall with dense conical crown, bark deeply and irregularly fissured. Leaves 7.5-13 cm long, opposite, elliptic. Flowers 1.4-2.3 cm long, in branched clusters, creamy white to pale yellow. Fruits 0.5-1 cm long, spherical or ovoid, ripening orange or red.
Ecology
Deciduous and evergreen lowland forests to 800 m elevation.
Distribution
India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia, W and C Indonesia to Sulawesi and Philippines.
Uses
Timber is hard and durable, often planted as street tree.
