Description

Shrub or small tree to 12 m tall, rather loose crown. Leaves with 3-5 pairs of leaflets, 15-50 cm long. Flowers in much branched clusters 5-30 cm across, amongst or behind leaves on branches, yellow turning pink then red with darker eye. Fruits in clusters of up to 9 pods, oblong to lanceolate with straight or curved beak, ripening dark brown, 10-30 cm long.


Ecology

Common in lowland forest and often gregarious along streams.

Distribution

Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Riau, Linga, Anambas Island, Borneo, E Java and Flores.

Uses

Occasionally planted as an ornamental.
