Description

Evergreen tree to 42m tall, with spreading, rounded crown and thick foliage. Leaves c. 30cm long, even-pinnate, 4�5 pairs, asymmetric at bases. Flowers white, clustered on dense, head-like clusters 3�6cm wide with many brown bracts at base. Fruits 2.5�4cm long, obliquely oval or ovoid, slightly flattened, thick skinned, smooth or shallowly wrinkled, covered with orange-brown scales.


Ecology

Understorey tree of lowland evergreen forests.

Distribution

Papua New Guinea and Australia (Queensland).

Uses

Sometimes planted as an ornamental. Makes a good shade tree. Flowers synchronously, with crown flushed with white-flowered clusters.
