Keranji
Description
Evergreen tree to 40 m tall. Leaves spirally arranged, compound with terminal leaflets, 15.2 cm long, 7-9 pairs of leaflets. Flowers white in axillary or terminal clusters. Pods roundish to egg-shaped, blue-black, harity, 1.5-2 cm long.
Ecology
Lowland forest to 1150 m altitude, sometimes in swampy areas.
Distribution
Southern Thailand, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, and Java.
Uses
Produces a heavy hardwood timber, very hard and extremely strong but only moderately durable. Fruits are edible
