Shrub to small tree to 5 m tall with spreading and rounded crown. Leaves bipinnate, 1-3 pairs of pinnae, 7-10 pairs of leaflets. Flowers in heads of bright red stamens, 7-10 cm diameter. Fruits flattened pod with thickened edges, c. 10 cm long, dehiscent.
