Description

Evergreen tree to 25 m tall. With dense cylindrical crown. Leaves 20-45 cm long, pinnate with 3-5 pairs of leaflet and a terminal leaflet. Flowers c. 20 cm long, pink-purple with yellow patch inside, in branched clusters at end of twigs. Fruits 7-15 cm long, broadly ovoid, swollen, thickly leathery.


Ecology

Common in the lowland forests.

Distribution

S Myanmar, W & S Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Riau.

Uses

Sometimes planted as an ornamental.
