Description
Evergreen tree to 30 m tall, diameter over 70 cm, crown spreading. Leaves simple phyllodes, distinctly curved, c. 20-26 cm long. Flowers in slender spikes, c. 8-11 cm long with short main stalk, yellow. Fruits flattened in irregularly coiled, c. 10 cm long, seeds black with fleshy folded aril.
Ecology
Often in grassland and on margins of lowland primary forests from tropical dry to moist subtropical dry to wet forests.
Distribution
Indonesian islands S Moluccas, Sulawesi and Aru; New Guinea and NE Australia.
Uses
Widely planted as a forest plantation for both pulp and paper, and timber, as it is an extremely fast-growing tree. Occasionally planted as an ornamental tree.
