Description

Small to medium evergreen tree to 20 m tall. Leaves 6-18 cm long, lanceolate, when young pinkish, mature leaves before dropping turns red, margin toothed. Pendulous flowers in clusters, pinkish-red sepals and white fringed petals, 1.5-2.5 cm long. Fruits pendulous, green, ellipsoid, 2.5-4 cm long with a hard-ellipsoid stone. Both flowers and fruits are very attractive.


Ecology

Lowland to hill forest up to 1,200m elevation, sometimes along streams.

Distribution

Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Borneo and the Philippines.

Uses

In recent years being introduced as an ornamental tree, more so in Thailand.
