Description

Small evergreen tree to 15 m tall with thick bushy crown. Leaves 8-25 cm long, elliptic to oblong-ovate, margins serrated. Flowers white, 10-25 cm across, with purple stamens, solitary or 2-3 upward-facing flowered cluster. Fruits 5-6 cm across, globose.


Ecology

Along river banks of lowland forest.

Distribution

Endemic in the Philippines.

Uses

Fruits, young shoots and flowers are used in flavouring in dishes. Often planted as ornamental.
