Description

Evergreen tree to 25 m tall with dense bushy crown. Leaves 10-24 cm long, oval to elliptic ovate, velvety hairy below, slightly asymmetric, margin finely toothed. Flowers c. 16 cm across, bright yellow, terminal and solitary. Fruits 5-6 cm across, spherical, not splitting, green ripening dull yellow.


Ecology

Lowland freshwater swamps to evergreen forest.

Distribution

S Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Banka.

Uses

Sometimes planted as ornamental street tree. Timber used for beams, planks and furniture, suitable for musical instruments such as clappers.
