Bekoi Daun Nipis
Description
Evergreen tree to 30 m. Leaves opposite, 10-15 cm long, elliptic to ovate. Inflorescence terminal or in axils of leaves, branched. Flowers unisexual, male and female in separate trees, small, about 3-5 mm across, crowded along the branched inflorescence stalks. Fruits about the same size as flowers splitting into 2 parts.
Ecology
In lowland forest up to 1200 m elevation.
Distribution
East Bangal, Assam, Bangladesh, S. China, Myanmar, Andaman Islands, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Sumatra, Java, Borneo and the Philippines.
Uses
The yellowish-red timber is hard and durable, used for furniture, cart wheels and casing.
