Description

Small or medium-sized evergreen tree to 20 m. Leaves 8-14 cm long, ovate to elliptic-oblong, opposite. Male flowers 1.8-2.5 cm across, creamy white to pale yellow in 3-6 flowered clusters; female flowers c. 2.5 cm across, solitary. Fruits 3.5-5 cm across, spherical, ripening pink to red.


Ecology

In lowland evergreen forest, often near coast.

Distribution

Nicobar Islands to Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore.

Uses

Sometimes planted in villages for its edible fruits. The white pulp is sourish sweet.
