Description

Small deciduous tree to 20 m tall. Leaves trifoliate, leaflets 7.5-12 cm long with distinct short stalk, broadly ovate. Flowers c. 5 cm across, in loose terminal clusters, pale green turning white at anthesis fading into pale yellow, appearing before or just after the flush of new leaves. Fruits 3-5 cm diameter, globose, yellowish.


Ecology

In streams and river banks.

Distribution

India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, S China, Indochina and Thailand.

Uses

Planted as ornamental, used in Ayurvedic medicine in India. Young shoots and flowers are edible.
