Description
Shrub or small tree 5-8 m tall with bushy crown. Leaves oppositely arranged, pinnately compound bearing 3-7 elliptic to elliptic-ovate leaflets with toothed margins. Flowers in terminal clusters, c. 3 cm long, trumpet shaped, yellow. Fruits elongated, flattened, c. 30 cm long.
Ecology
Dry and disturbed habitats such as roadsides but it can also be found in relatively undisturbed forests.
Distribution
West Indies, Mexico to Peru.
Uses
Widely planted as an ornamental for its attractive yellow flowers.
