Description
Small deciduous tree to 8 m tall with bushy crown. Leaves opposite, palmately compound with 5-7 leaflets, each leaflet 6-18 cm long, covered with silvery scales on both surfaces. Flowers tubular, c. 6.5 cm diameter, bright yellow in loose clusters. Fruit slender, flattened capsule, c. 10 cm long.
Ecology
In riparian areas and dry deciduous forests.
Distribution
Suriname, Brazil, E Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay and N Argentina.
Uses
Planted as an ornamental. They do better in areas with drier climates where the tree blossoms with yellow flowers after shedding its leaves.
