Fiji Fan Palm, Pacific Fan Palm

Description

Solitary fan-leafed palm to 14 m tall, 30 cm diameter. Crown rounded with c. 40 leaves. Blade semi-circular to diamond shaped, 90-180 cm wide on a stout petiole 90-120 cm long, covered with scurfy white was coating. Inflorescence 60-90 cm long, much branched and bear small yellow flowers. Fruits globose, 13 mm across, glossy black when ripe.


Distribution

Only known from cultivated plants, most likely native in South and West Pacific Islands.

Uses

Often as ornamental.
