Pinanga adangensis Ridl. (ARECACEAE)

Description

Close clustering feather-leafed palm to 8 m tall, 4-5 cm diameter, green. Crown shaft yellow with brown indumentum, 5-6 leaves to crown; leaves gracefully arching 1.8 m long on 60 cm petiole; leaflets regularly spaced in a uniform plane. Inflorescence just below crown shaft, spreading to pendent, 5-7 branches; flowers yellow arranged in two opposite rows. Fruits ovoid to obovoid, c. 1.2 cm diameter, ripening red to purple-black.

In lowland forests.

Distribution

Peninsular Thailand and north-west peninsular Malaysia.
