Yellow Latan
Description
Solitary palm with stout trunk, up to 16 m height. Fronds palmate, 2-3 m long, balde up to 1.5 m across. Inflorescences about 2.5 m long, fruits egg-shaped or pear-shaped, 4-5 cm long, seeds with prominent ridge.
Ecology
Lowland forest, near edges of ravines.
Distribution
Endemic to the Mascarene Island of Rodriguez.
Uses
Often planted as an ornamental, adaptable to a range of climates from tropical to warm temperate.
