Solitary fan-leafed palm to 11 m tall, c. 25 cm diameter. Petiole 1.2-1.8 m long armed with small teeth along its lower margins; the blade c. 1 m across, covered with fluffy tomentum. Male and female inflorescences borne on different individuals, up to 2 m long. Fruits egg-shaped or pear-shaped, 5-7 cm long.
