Description

Close clustering feather-leafed palm to 8 m tall, green yellow-orange ringed stem, 5-8 cm diameter. Crown shaft greyish green to almost silvery grey, slightly bulging at its base. Leaves 1.8-2.5 m long, beautifully arched, leaflets regularly arranged, in a V-shaped plane. Inflorescence growing among the leaf sheaths, pendent, branched. Fruits ovoid, yellow-orange, c. 2.5 cm long.


Distribution

Endemic in Madagascar. Critically endangered in the wild.

Uses

Ironically, it is one of the commonest palms in cultivation. It is very tolerant to shade and full sun.
