Description

Evergreen tree to 50 m tall, to 100 cm diameter, buttresses usually absent or low and only shallowly spreading. Leaves in whorls of 3-4. The cream to white flowers are arranged in terminal rather lax inflorescence. Flowers are small c. 7 mm long. Fruits in paired pendulous follicles.


Ecology

Common in the lowland and hill forest to 1000 m altitude and in secondary forest.

Distribution

Widely distributed in continental India, Southeast Asia, southern China.

Uses

The timber is hard and can be used to make furniture and flooring.
